"Let go the world"

That old red truck of yours just drove away
Wanted to keep it but it couldn't stay
Needed some working room and TLC - And we were short on both
We took home movies to remember when
In ten more years we'll wonder where it's been
Your favorite truck in the whole wide world - In someone else's hands

My mother used to tell me - If you love it set it free
Hearts should fly away - Or sail the sea
It's your own wings that can get - Clipped and tied
So just let it go and fly - Let go the world and fly

That old black dogs been with me fourteen years
Lived my life through all the laughs and tears
Gentle soul inside a ball of fur - A happy swirling tail
Painful bark tells me that it's not fair
He's having trouble on the front porch stair
Losing out to life a thread each day - Sleeping more and more

My mother used to tell me - If you love it set it free
It may come back to you in ways - You cannot see
It's your heart that can get - Trapped in your mind
So just let it go and fly - Let go the world and fly

Half the money when we sold the car
Got us a puppy and a new guitar
Making music with the ones you love - Beats a classic ride
Now our son is almost eighteen years
Close to leaving home despite his fears
Guess we'd better call the folks and chat Get the same old advice

Your mother told you - If you love him set him free
His heart should have the chance to sail the sea
It's your heart strings that get - Wrapped and tied
Just let him go and fly - Let go your world and fly
